Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Accountant with a strong background in government contracting to join our dynamic financial team. As a Staff Accountant, you will play a crucial role in implementing financial processes related to the performance of our government contracts. Your expertise in government accounting regulations, compliance, and reporting will ensure accurate financial data, maintain contract compliance, and support our organization's financial success.
The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization's assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. 
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all aspects of government contract accounting, including revenue recognition, billing, and cost allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant government accounting standards (e.g., FAR, CAS) for contract-related financial transactions.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Generate project-specific financial reports to track revenue, costs, and profitability, providing insights into project performance.
  • Participate in month-end and year-end closing activities, reconciling accounts, and preparing journal entries as necessary.
  • Review and analyze general ledger transactions related to government contracts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Support senior management business decisions through financial and business analysis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities: 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Possession of strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and its application to government contract accounting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of government contracting regulations, including FAR, CAS, and DCAA requirements.
  • Proficient in financial analysis, cost accounting, and budgeting processes.
  • Experience with accounting software and ERP systems; familiarity with data analytic and visualization software is a plus.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Proven experience (3-5 years) working as a Staff Accountant with a focus on government contracts within a government contractor or similar organization.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) qualification preferred.
Requirements
  • This position is hybrid and will require working on site in McLean, VA at least twice a week

Flexible work from home options available.

Compensation: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
